Behold the Man

In This Sermon:

👑 “Behold the man!” Pilate’s words from John 19 are the title of one of the most famous paintings of Jesus before the crowd, and Pastor Jacob Van Sickle takes us behind the scenes of that moment. By looking at the sins that put Jesus on the cross, we can see our own sins, and even more importantly, see His forgiveness.

🔑 In this sermon you’ll learn:
🩸 What the soldiers’ bloodlust reveals about the brutality Jesus endured for us
😞 Why envy drove the religious leaders, and the difference between ambition and competition
🛡️ How Pilate’s self-protection led him to condemn an innocent man, and why you don’t need to protect yourself because Jesus died for you
📖 Why those who know the most truth and suppress it bear the greater guilt (religious denial)
✝️ How Jesus looked down from the cross with full knowledge and said, “Father, forgive them”
🎨 What Antonio Ciseri’s painting Ecce Homo shows us about John 19
